Jabber is joining the list of UBIT services protected by Duo two-step verification. If you use your UB Phone with Jabber as a verification method for Duo, this change may affect you.

Because Jabber will now require Duo verification to log in, you could become locked out of your UBITName account if you are not near your physical desk phone (if you are working remotely, for example) and you need to verify your login using your UB phone number.

What do I need to do?

We recommend adding an additional Duo verification method to your UBITName account, regardless whether you use your UB Phone as a verification method.

To see a list of available Duo verification methods, and instructions for how to add and use them, visit the UBIT website.

Print backup codes

Did you know you can print out backup Duo codes to keep on hand in case you aren’t able to use any of your designated verification methods?

To generate backup passcodes for your UBITName account, first log into the Duo two-step verification manager at twostep.buffalo.edu. Then, click Generate Passcodes and print the codes it generates.

We encourage everyone at UB to take five minutes and generate backup Duo codes, which could prevent you from being locked out of your UBIT accounts and services.

I need help with my UBITName account!

If you are unable to log into your UBITName account because of Duo, visit the Recover my Duo Two-Step Verification page to see a list of options to help recover your account.
