Latin Honors/Gold Cord Policy
If you are earning a bachelor's degree (including those awarded as part of combined degrees), you may be eligible to receive Latin honors based on your UB cumulative grade point average (GPA) on the following scale:
Average (based on 4.000=A)
To qualify for Latin honors, you must present a minimum of 60 credit hours of UB undergraduate coursework, at least 54 of which must be graded credits (i.e., not grads of 'P', 'NP', 'S' or 'U').
If you are a June degree conferral, to receive the Latin honors designation in commencement program books, and to be eligible to wear the honorific gold cord *cum laude, magna and summa) at the time of ceremonies, you must qualify based on your UB cumulative GPA through the winter intersession of this year and projected UB credit hours through the spring semester. Standings for Latin honors may change once final grades are posted or degrees conferred.
This recognition is only intended if you will have your degree conferred in June, or have had your degree conferred in the previous February or August.
The gold cords will be available through the University Bookstore on North Campus beginning March 8.
Friday, May 19; 5 p.m.
Alumni Arena, North Campus
Note: Remember that no personal items may be left behind in Room 76. Limit what you bring (purses, bags, etc.) as you will need to hold onto everything for the duration of the event.
GradImages is the contracted photographer for commencement. There will be a posed photo opportunity as well as a photo of you crossing the stage. Photo proofs will be emailed to you approximately one week following the commencement ceremony. You may direct all post-ceremony inquires to GradImages.
The Office of the Registrar will mail a printed diploma, free of charge, to your permanent address approximately four to six weeks after the conferral date. You are responsible for making address changes; these should be made by the term conferral date to ensure that you receive your diploma.
Certified Electronic Diploma
You also have the option to purchase a certified electronic diploma (CeDiploma) for $15.95. Notification will be sent to your UB email, from email@example.com, approximately three to six weeks after your degree conferral date.
