Shruti Bajpai, MS ’16, came to the School of Management after earning a BTech degree in computer science from Uttar Pradesh Technical University in India, and working in the information systems field for more than five years at InfoSys and Oracle.
She recently graduated from our Master of Science in Management Information Systems (MS MIS) program and moved to Seattle for a position at the global corporate headquarters of Amazon.
I was attracted to the MS MIS program at the School of Management because it is one of the top-ranked programs of its kind. After analyzing the course structure and talking to students who were enrolled in the program, I decided to join UB.
I’ve always been a technical person. But I wanted to move into a more business-related career because I wanted to understand how business and technology can help each other and work together. Through the MS MIS program, I learned how to implement technical solutions to solve business problems.
For the interview process, I had two screening rounds over the phone followed by an entire day of interviews in Seattle. The questions covered enterprise resource planning (ERP) specifics, the SQL programming language and financial knowledge.
I will serve as an ERP functional analyst at Amazon. The job appealed to me because I have a lot of interest in ERP and because I will get to work with the teams that cater to Amazon’s vast customer base. Amazon has a huge number of vendors, suppliers and inventories that all use these applications to manage financial information.
I want to learn and grow with Amazon — to lead teams and deliver great results for the organization. I want to be a go-to person for any solution they’re looking for.
I left my full-time job to go back to college and loved every minute of it. The MS MIS program is pretty fast-paced, but if you manage your time well you will leave with a sense of accomplishment when you finish — and the faculty are friendly and will help you whenever you need them.
Come with an open mind and immerse yourself in the experience of working with such a diverse group of individuals. I got to learn about so many new technologies, finance, entrepreneurship, security, project management, statistics and much more in such a small span of time.
With a Master of Science in Management Information Systems, you’ll learn to identify problems and leverage technology to develop solutions and realize strategic opportunities in any business worldwide.
