This is the story of two Long Island brothers who attended the University at Buffalo. The elder, Mark, had a passion for science and graduated with a master's degree in biological sciences in 1980. Stuart was a business major, preparing for a career in the corporate world. Their time at UB intersected briefly before Mark graduated and went to work in his field. Several years later, he returned to pursue a doctoral degree and was in the final months of writing his dissertation when he tragically lost his life in an auto accident on February 21, 1986.

The crushing loss was felt throughout the university as well as within the Diamond family. As a student, Mark's dedication to molecular biology research was truly unmatched. He was kind, generous and known as a man of integrity. A senator in the Graduate Student Association, he also served as director of the Graduate Research Grant program. Following his death, the program was renamed the Mark Diamond Research Fund with the addition of contributions from family, students and professors who knew him as someone special.

His brother, Stuart '82, also has honored Mark's memory with a gift naming the Mark Diamond Team Breakout Room in the School of Management. Stuart is chief financial officer of GroupM, North America. His career in corporate finance has included positions at Calvin Klein, Ogilvy Healthworld Corp., National Medical Health Card Systems Inc. and Medicis Pharmaceutical, where he currently serves as a member of the board of directors.
