The DBA program follows a predictable, professional‑friendly rhythm across the academic year, combining structured coursework with flexible research engagement.

Fall and Spring Semesters

Each fall and spring semester includes:

  • Two seminar courses (6 credits total)
    Each 3‑credit course is delivered in a 7‑week format, taken consecutively. Classes meet twice weekly on weekday mornings from 7:00–9:00 a.m. EST, supporting continuity, discussion and sustained engagement.
  • Directed Research (3 credits)
    Research credits are completed over the full 15‑week semester at a pace and meeting schedule determined collaboratively between the student and faculty research advisor.

Summer Semesters

The summer semesters feature:

  • One seminar course (3 credits) delivered in a compressed format to provide greater flexibility during the summer months. Part of the course meets twice weekly on weekday mornings from 7:00–9:00 a.m. EST. The remaining portion may include an optional in‑residence experience designed to strengthen cohort connections and collaboration. Residencies are typically held in Buffalo or select international locations, such as Singapore, and involve intensive daily sessions (approximately 4–8 hours per day over one week). Students who cannot attend in person may participate live via Zoom, with sessions recorded for asynchronous engagement.
  • Directed Research (3 credits)
    Research credits are completed over the full 15‑week semester at a pace and meeting schedule determined collaboratively between the student and faculty research advisor.

The final fall and spring semester includes:
