Find out what it takes to be accepted into one of the most challenging, recognized and rewarding PhD in Management programs in the world.

Successful applicants have strong quantitative and verbal skills and have completed or are completing bachelor's or master's degrees in relevant fields such as statistics, economics, engineering, computer science, psychology or business.

Although not a requirement, knowledge and experience in database management (e.g. Oracle, SQL) and experimental research or survey methodology may prove useful for conducting research.

Application Process

The following departments are not accepting applications for fall 2026:
  • Management Science and Systems
  • Organization and Human Resources

Our program offers fall admission only. Completed applications and all credentials must be received in the School of Management by January 3 to be considered for admission.

The priority application deadline is December 15 and the final deadline is January 3 with decision notification by February 15. You are encouraged to submit application materials before the deadline.

1 In accordance with SUNY policy, the University at Buffalo will verify initial residency status during the admissions process. Please note, newly admitted students claiming permanent domicile in New York State for 12 months or more at time of application will be asked to provide three supporting documents to verify residency, prior to initial enrollment. If you receive an admission offer, you will be contacted to provide this verification documentation. Please refer to the UB Graduate School's Verifying New York State Residency webpage for more information and acceptable forms of documentation.
