Earn an Emerging Leader Certificate
As an incoming first-year undergraduate management major, you can apply to join a small-cohort program focused on self-leadership.
As an emerging leader, you will:
- Participate in a structured program that helps you uncover the skills, habits and attitudes of self-leadership. With greater self-awareness during your first year, you will be able to apply your strengths and discover ways to grow through your challenges.
- Become a part of a small, meaningful community of peers within the School of Management. Creating a sense of belonging and community enhances your learning experience.
- Earn an Emerging Leader Certificate to boost your résumé. Your participation in this program will help you add value to your future engagement in student organizations, internships and other experiences.
This certificate program starts each fall semester and is completed in both the fall and subsequent spring semester.
If accepted into the program, you must commit your time and be an engaged participant in this learning experience.
- If selected to the program, you will be force-registered in the Emerging Leader course, a one-credit course offered during the first seven weeks of the fall semester.
- To earn the Emerging Leader Certificate, you must successfully complete the fall course as well as a special section of the Experience the 50 course in the subsequent spring semester.
To apply, you must be a matriculated first-year undergraduate management major starting in fall 2024.
- First-year management majors who started at UB in fall 2024 are eligible. New transfer students in a management major in fall 2024 will be considered, but acceptance may depend on space availability.
- Once selected you must remain in one of the UB School of Management's majors to earn the program certificate.
- Submit an online application.
- Email any supporting documents, such as a personal statement, résumé or recommendation letters, to mgt-llcc@buffalo.edu. This is an optional step.
Applications will be reviewed throughout the summer or until the cohort is full. Candidates may be contacted for a brief phone interview before the start of the fall semester.
Submitting an application does not guarantee acceptance into the program.
