Gregg S. Fisher, BS ’92, CFA, CFP, a recognized pioneer in investment science, has spent his career at the intersection of data, technology and investing.
Straight out of the UB School of Management, Fisher went on to found Gerstein Fisher, an asset management firm where he innovated and implemented multifactor investment strategies that achieved top-decile and top-quartile performance. In 2016, after growing this firm to $5 billion under management and advisement, he sold the company to a large publicly traded bank. In 2018, Fisher founded Quent Capital to invest in global innovation. At Quent, he combines his expertise in quantitative analysis and research with his entrepreneurial knowledge to invest in small companies globally and to manage globally diversified portfolios informed by the disruptive themes transforming today’s business landscape.
Fisher is an active and longstanding supporter of the University at Buffalo, serving as a trustee of the university and as chair of the investment committee of its nearly $2 billion endowment. He also channels his expertise and philanthropy into supporting students in the UB School of Management.
He sponsors the Quent Research Collaborative, an initiative that brings together faculty and students from across disciplines to explore timely issues like thematic equity research, small-company equities, founder-led businesses and wage inequality — projects that expand the role of finance in solving real-world challenges. By offering access to Bloomberg terminals and other research technologies and systems, he enables students to gain hands-on experience with the same tools used by industry professionals worldwide.
Through the Fisher Family Fellows program, selected students are provided unique real-world opportunities to dive into equity research, building valuable professional skills and industry relationships.
As a founding board member and current chair of the school’s Terese Kelly Investment Group, Fisher leads business professionals from a wide range of industries who collaborate to prepare students for success in the finance profession.
And, by sponsoring the school’s annual trip to Wall Street in New York City, Fisher offers students a firsthand experience of the financial industry in action. For many, it’s their first time visiting New York City — making the trip both educational and unforgettable.
Through these efforts, Fisher has remained a steady advocate for experiential learning and mentorship. His commitment reflects a belief that by combining academic rigor with practical exposure, students can uncover new ways of thinking and new possibilities for the future of finance.
