Academic Advisement

Undergraduate Academic Programs Office

The Undergraduate Academic Programs Office provides academic advisement for admitted Accounting, Business Administration, and Information Technology and Management majors. We follow a Backpack-to-Briefcase advising model, meaning you will receive guidance throughout all four years from a primary role advisor. Our advisors are experienced professionals with master’s degrees.

Current Student Advising

As an admitted management student, you can take advantage of advisement throughout the year for course planning or to address academic challenges in a one-on-one setting. Appointments are 30 minutes, and you may attend in person or via Zoom, depending on your availability and preference. To schedule, use Navigate, call or visit the office.

Drop-In Advising

As a current student, you may drop-in for advisement during peak times such as add/drop (first week of semester, plus one day) and the week leading up to the resignation deadline (Week 11). Drop-in advising operates on a first-come, first-served basis to ensure timely support. No appointment is needed. To schedule, use Navigate, call or visit the office.

Transitional Advising

If you are considering a Management major, but are not yet certain, you can send an email to mgt-undergrad@buffalo.edu to request an appointment, and a scheduling link will be emailed to you. If you wish to become a management major after that meeting, you will need to complete the Major Change Application Form.

New Incoming Student Advising

If you are a new first-year student: You will be partially enrolled by an advisor prior to your first term at UB and will need to complete your schedule by adding additional courses required by the university. If you are honors, EOP, or athlete, you will be enrolled by that advisor and the process may differ slightly.

  1. Complete the Advising and Orientation Form (AOF).
  2. Remove any holds that would prevent registration.
  3. Set up UB email  and look for daily updates regarding your schedule and other important information.
  4. Take the Math Readiness Assessment (MRA).
  5. Finalize your schedule by registering for your required first semester 199 seminar and other courses suggested by your advisor.

If you are a new transfer student: You will enroll yourself in courses. Watch your UB email for details on class recommendations from an advisor after submitting the Advising and Orientation Form.  All transfer students will be invited to make an appointment prior to your first term at UB.

  1. Complete the Advising and Orientation Form (AOF).
  2. Remove any holds that would prevent registration.
  3. Set up UB email  and look for daily updates regarding your schedule and other important information.
