Dear alumni and friends,
This academic year was a memorable one as it marked the centennial anniversary of our school. Throughout the year, our students had numerous achievements and our academic programs broke new ground.
For the third year in a row, 100% of our MS accounting students with employment eligibility accepted job offers upon graduation. Two student teams from our Beta Alpha Psi chapter placed first and second in the organization's mid-year international meeting this March, and both teams will continue on to compete at the Beta Alpha Psi Annual Meeting in Orlando this July. Two student teams from the UB Accounting Association placed first and second, respectively, in the case competition at the Institute of Internal Audit Global Student Conference in April. We owe our success to our alumni and friends, our dedicated Accounting Advisory Council and our students and faculty.
This spring, our department organized two highly impactful events. The annual Sufrin lecture series featured an engaging panel discussion on the role of artificial intelligence in the accounting profession. Then, in late April, our department hosted the fourth annual Labor and Accounting Group conference, organized by faculty members Mike Dambra and Brandon Szerwo. This two-day conference featured presentations by leading experts on labor and accounting.
We also recently completed preparations for launching a new graduate degree program, a Master of Science in Accounting Analytics. This new program will train students who seek to specialize in data analytics in the accounting field.
We have also been successful in faculty recruiting this year. This fall, we will welcome a new faculty member, Vincent Castellani, who will join our faculty as an assistant professor (he is currently wrapping up his PhD study at Pennsylvania State University). This hiring will strengthen our teaching and research capabilities.
In closing, thank you to our loyal alumni and friends for supporting our students and programs. Many of you generously support us financially and with your time and talent, greatly enhancing our ability to provide our students with the best educational experiences. Our ongoing relationship with everyone who supports our programs is the foundation of our future success. Thank you again for supporting us and have a wonderful summer.
