Providing aspiring professionals with the knowledge and skills to become IT leaders.
The University at Buffalo School of Management and Amrita University in India are jointly offering a higher educational post-graduate degree program for information technology (IT) services executives in Bangalore. This collaborative venture consists of two master's degrees: a Master of Science (MS) in Management Science: Business Analytics and Systems from the University at Buffalo School of Management, State University of New York, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Amrita University.
This dual-degree was designed by the two universities in conjunction with several focus groups of high-performance managers who provided valuable inputs to curriculum development. The program develops the functional, technical and process skills needed for effective management of IT service organizations, and soft skills such as communication, teamwork, innovation and resource management.
The business triggers for this collaborative program are essentially threefold: enable top talent in the Indian IT services industry to grow into world-class managers; enable IT firms to retain such talent by providing significant career advancement through the program; and make them extremely attractive to the outside world. As a result, the program enables a robust and effective development of human resources within the IT services sector contributing to both organizational development and individual growth.
The MS in Management Science: Business Analytics and Systems program launched Bangalore in 2007. The program consists of two cohorts—a regular MS/MBA cohort and an executive MS/MBA cohort. The regular cohort is a two-year program using a trimester structure. The executive cohort also spans a two-year period with classes held on weekends. The MS degree offered by the University at Buffalo is a 31-credit program. This is a specialized degree that is unique among Indian educational offerings. While several universities in India offer general management degrees, no other degree program is specifically focused on the management of IT services firms. Classes are taught by UB School of Management faculty in collaboration with Amrita faculty.
In addition to content related to IT services management, students will receive solid grounding in key functional areas of management, such as finance and accounting. They also will develop skills in leadership and strategic thinking.
