Background

Cleary brings to the classroom nearly 20 years of industry experience in information security, enterprise infrastructure and IT management in higher education and the private sector (from small startups to large publicly traded companies). At UB, Cleary has served in both highly technical and IT leadership positions, including IT director for Campus Living, manager of UBIT’s Enterprise Infrastructures Services and chief information security officer for UB.

Information security has been part of Cleary’s ethos since graduate school. He has experienced information security from many angles, including architecting secure research and academic networks; managing operational security services for large enterprise; setting policy; enumerating risk; and promulgating holistic and contemporary security practices.
