Message from the dean

Dear Alumni and Friends,

I am delighted to share this issue of Buffalo Business and hope the stories within help you rejoice in the passion that defines the School of Management ecosystem.

Our cover story, “Leadership reimagined,” explores how today’s leaders are navigating an increasingly complex business landscape and showcases our recent conference on that very topic. From rapid changes in technology to shifting sustainability demands and global economic uncertainty, successful organizations require leaders who combine analytical thinking with agility, curiosity and resilience. Here in the School of Management, these are the qualities we cultivate every day.

Transformative education is a key strategic pillar of the school, and you can read how we are preparing students to tackle real-world challenges like cybersecurity and behavioral research. At the same time, our faculty are advancing knowledge in their fields through impactful research in such areas as telehealth deployment, individual processing of life experiences and its impact on humility, incentives that drive insider cyberthreats, AI warning systems and the tangible benefits from expanded leadership participation across genders.

You’ll also meet alumni driving innovation in sports technology and AI-powered lending, while others are strengthening the School of Management through their generosity and service.

What connects each of these stories is a simple but powerful idea: leadership is not static. It evolves alongside the world around us. It requires lifelong learning, a willingness to challenge assumptions and the confidence to turn emerging opportunities into meaningful impact.

Those same principles continue to guide our school. We remain committed to preparing graduates who can both respond to change as well as shape it. They understand that business can be a powerful force for innovation, economic growth and positive societal change. We would love to hear from each of you as we continue to lead our century-old school to grow its global impact.

Thank you for your continued partnership with the School of Management. Your engagement strengthens our community and helps ensure that our students, faculty and alumni continue to lead with purpose in an ever-changing world.

Best regards,

Ananth Iyer
