Ampadu Honored with Plesur Award

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Alex B. Ampadu of Buffalo, associate professor of accounting and law, received the Milton Plesur Excellence in Teaching Awards from the undergraduate Student Association for his commitment to students and the quality of his teaching. Ampadu is the first three-time winner of the Plesur award, having also received it in 1998 and 2006.

The award is named for Plesur, a professor in the Department of History who died in 1987. He was a beloved teacher, author and scholar of popular culture and the American presidency, whose humor captivated his students.

A UB accounting faculty member since 1986, Ampadu teaches a variety of undergraduate and graduate accounting courses. He developed the School of Management’s endorsed internal auditing program (The Internal Auditing Educational Partnership)—one of only 27 such programs in the world. He is the founder and faculty advisor to the Minority Management Society. He served on the board of directors for Beta Alpha Psi, the national accounting fraternity, and chaired the Accounting Scholar Leadership Task Force of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He has also served on several professional and nonprofit organizations’ leadership committees, including the Executive Committee of the Pre-certification Educational Committee of the AICPA.

Ampadu is a recipient of the statewide Dr. Emmanuel Saxe Outstanding CPA in Education Award from the NYSSCPA and is a two-time recipient of Beta Alpha Psi Faculty Advisor of the Year. Ampadu is a CPA in New York State, in addition to being a Certified Management Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor, Forensic Certified Public Accountant and Certified in Financial Forensics. He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Ghana and an MBA from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
