BUFFALO, N.Y. — Bloomberg Businessweek has ranked the University at Buffalo School of Management one of the best business schools in the nation based on the return on investment it provides MBA graduates, placing it in the No. 2 spot for the second year in a row.
The ROI ranking calculator is derived from Bloomberg Businessweek’s Best Business School ranking, released earlier this week, in which the UB School of Management was ranked No. 62 overall and No. 29 among public universities.
The school also fared exceptionally well in other components of the ranking, where it earned the rank of No. 18 in the learning component (up 13 places from last year), and climbed significantly in the entrepreneurship component to No. 35 (up 11 places).
“This recognition reflects the impact of our strategic priorities across the School of Management, from delivering transformative educational experiences and advancing thought leadership to engaging with organizations in ways that create meaningful impact,” says Ananth Iyer, dean of the UB School of Management. “Together, these efforts strengthen the value we provide our students and graduates, while enhancing our ability to compete and lead as a business school.”
Bloomberg Businessweek surveyed 4,842 students, 7,861 alumni and 617 employers to assess 98 schools, asking about everything from jobs to salaries and classroom learning to alumni networks. Schools were ranked on four indexes: compensation, learning, networking and entrepreneurship, as well as compensation and job-placement data from each school. The ROI ranking is calculated by subtracting MBA investment (tuition, interest on loans, plus forgone income) from gross return (10 years of earnings and raises over pre-MBA salary). The resulting net return is then annualized to show the compounded annual return on investment.
Of more than 16,000 business schools worldwide, the UB School of Management is one of only about 1,000 schools accredited by AACSB International and the only school in the Buffalo Niagara region to make the Bloomberg Businessweek ranking. The ranking places the UB School of Management solidly in the top 10% of AACSB-accredited business schools.
The UB School of Management is recognized for its emphasis on real-world learning, community and impact, and the global perspective of its faculty, students and alumni. In addition to Bloomberg Businessweek, the school has been ranked by Entrepreneur, Forbes and U.S. News & World Report for the quality of its programs and the return on investment it provides its graduates.
