UB School of Management students receive awards at commencement

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Sixteen graduates of the University at Buffalo School of Management received awards during the school’s commencement ceremonies on May 16.

The graduates and the awards they received are:

  • Daniel E. Ovadia of East Meadow, the State University of New York Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence (undergraduate), presented to students who have best demonstrated and been recognized for the integration of academic excellence with accomplishments in leadership, athletics, community service, creative and performing arts, campus involvement or career achievement.
  • Matthew R. Silver of Plainview, the State University of New York Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence (graduate), presented to students who have best demonstrated and been recognized for the integration of academic excellence with accomplishments in leadership, athletics, community service, creative and performing arts, campus involvement or career achievement.
  • Silver also is a co-recipient, with Dominic M. Sellitto of Lancaster, of the Master of Science Student Achievement Award, presented to the Master of Science students who, in the opinion of the faculty, have demonstrated scholastic excellence and rendered outstanding extracurricular service to the school and the university.
  • Natasha C. Allard of Buffalo, the MBA Student Achievement Award, presented to the MBA student who, in the opinion of the faculty, has demonstrated scholastic excellence and rendered outstanding extracurricular service to the school and the university.
  • Balakumar Bharathi of Kharagpur, India, the Drs. John and Arlyn Myers Award, presented to the MBA student who, in the eyes of the award committee, has excelled in the field of marketing in the MBA program.
  • Rajarshi Chakraborty of Kharagpur, India, the PhD Student Achievement Award, presented to the doctoral student who, in the opinion of the faculty, has demonstrated scholastic excellence and rendered outstanding extracurricular service to the school and the university.
  • Haiyan Hu of Inner Mongolia, China, the Dr. Marcel and Mrs. Kathryn Vinokur Award to Promote Global Understanding, presented to the graduating School of Management student born outside of North America who has contributed to promoting global understanding among MBA students.
  • Christopher P. Maugans of Tonawanda, the Magnus Award for Greatness in MBA Student Leadership, presented to an MBA student who has demonstrated greatness in all facets of the MBA program, including academic performance, leadership, innovation and generosity of spirit.
  • Anna M. McCullough of Lockport, the Eddy Lin Memorial Award, presented to a graduate student who is focusing on an accounting career with a mid-size public accounting firm. The recipient must actively mentor others, exhibit scholastic excellence and a passion for learning and have a caring and fun attitude.
  • Jacalyn M. Meyvis of Webster, the Adriana Ilyse Thaler Memorial Senior Award in Marketing, presented to the senior marketing student who has best demonstrated academic excellence, leadership, marketing professionalism and personal motivation.
  • Philip A. Rooss of Amherst, the Charles H. Diefendorf Award in Finance, presented to the student who has made the greatest contribution to the finance discipline.
  • Joshua D. Seward of Webster, the Delta Sigma Pi Scholarship Key, presented to the full-time undergraduate student who compiled the highest management grade point average of all eligible graduating students.
  • Seward also accepted the Undergraduate Student Achievement Award, presented to the undergraduate student who, in the opinion of the faculty, has demonstrated scholastic excellence and rendered outstanding extracurricular service to the school and the university.
  • Sarah E. Tanbakuchi of Grand Island, the Dr. Jerry and Mrs. Dina Wind Award to Promote International Understanding, presented to the student born in the United States who has contributed to promoting international understanding among MBA students.
  • Jocelin S. Thomas of Buffalo, the University at Buffalo Accounting Association Michael S. Dockery Memorial Senior Award, presented to the senior accounting student who has contributed in a superior way to the Institute of Management Accountants and to the accounting profession, fellow students and the School of Management.
  • Dipin Vidyadharan of Bangalore, India, the Sidney N. Kahn Memorial Award for Excellence in Sales and Marketing, presented to the MBA student who has made the greatest contribution to the field of sales and marketing.
  • Megan B. Walck of Sanborn, the William H. Wendel Memorial Award for Student Excellence in Human Resources Management, presented to the graduating student who has made the greatest contribution to the field of human resources management.
