School of Management Announces Case Competition Winners

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- A team of five MBA students in the University at Buffalo School of Management will share a $2,000 prize as winners of the 15th annual UB MBA Case Competition.

The winning team, Patrick Fleming of Lancaster, N.Y., Farzad Jalil of Niagara Falls, N.Y., Sameer Yadav of New Delhi, India, Caitlyn Howe of Pittsford, N.Y., and Ingmar Haffke of Leer, Germany, was chosen from among four teams of finalists who presented the results of their case analyses at the UB School of Management.

Judges evaluated participants on the quality of their analyses and use of case data, the creativity and clarity of their recommendations, the quality and detail of their implementation plans, the quality and style of their oral presentations, and the quality of their question and answer responses. The case focused on mobile banking strategies for Bank of America.

The competition was sponsored by Columbus McKinnon Corp., Ernst & Young LLP, and Moog Inc. The judges for the final round of the competition were Karen Howard, vice president of finance and CFO, Columbus McKinnon; Kim Marie McKernan, manager, global marketing communications, Moog; Michael Murray, partner, Ernst & Young; and Lawrence Sanders, professor of management science and systems, UB School of Management. Prizes also were awarded to the second and third place teams.
