BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The University at Buffalo School of Management honored several doctoral students for their work at the third annual PhD Showcase and Celebration on April 3.
Robert Kim received the Dean’s Award and a $2,500 prize as the senior doctoral student who has most demonstrated exceptional research performance and the highest potential as a scholar. Criteria for consideration included journal publications, research awards, and presentations and papers at top conferences.
Kim will earn his PhD in management with a concentration in accounting this June and plans to join the University of Massachusetts Boston as a tenure-track assistant professor this fall.
Srikanth Parameswaran accepted the Rising Star award and a $1,000 prize. The award honors the first- or second-year doctoral student who has most exhibited exceptional early overall performance in the program through their engagement with faculty on research, performance on coursework and contributions to the intellectual atmosphere of the school.
Parameswaran earned his master’s degree from the UB School of Management in 2011 and will graduate with his PhD in 2016.
Seventeen students representing all six of the School of Management’s doctoral disciplines presented posters highlighting their research accomplishments.
Wencui Han and Woongsun Yoo were each awarded $1,000 prizes for their poster presentations. Han presented her project “Diabetic Treatments Adherence Motivating, Reminding and Monitoring Mobile Application,” and Yoo displayed his project “State Financial Crisis and Sources of Systemic Credit Risk.”
Judges for the poster competition were Michael R. Frone, PhD, senior research scientist in the UB Research Institute on Addictions, and Thomas Feeley, PhD, professor and chair of the Department of Communications in the UB College of Arts and Sciences.
Distinguished scholar Ram D. Gopal, PhD, the GE Capital Endowed Professor of Business in the University of Connecticut School of Business, served as the keynote speaker at the event. Gopal earned his PhD from the UB School of Management in 1994.
Additional speakers included Arjang Assad, dean of the School of Management; Darren Treadway, associate professor of organization and human resources and chair of the school’s doctoral program; and faculty advisors for each department.
