Class Level Eligibility

Students now have greater flexibility in defining their experiential learning opportunities. We are pleased to encourage and support virtual/remote internships as well as in-person and hybrid formats as a means to stay engaged with employers while continuing to develop professional skills. Any student wishing to participate in an internship needs to be in good academic standing.

Undergraduates

Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors

  • Must be in good academic standing (2.5 GPA overall and in management courses)
  • Can apply up to six elective credits (two internships) for internship participation, toward graduation requirements

MBA Students

Full-time MBA students are required* to report and complete an approved internship or experiential learning opportunity during their enrollment in the MBA program. 

Options include:

  • Full-semester or summer internship
  • Capstone experience or project team 
  • Dual-degree rotation (corresponding with the MBA curriculum)
  • Entrepreneurial endeavor 
  • Fisher Family Fellowship (F3)
  • Jordan A. Daniels Nonprofit Board Fellowship
  • UB Social Impact Fellows program
  • UB Projects Clinic
  • UB School of Management Global Programs (travel required)
  • Western New York Prosperity Fellowship

MBA students must:

  • Be in good academic standing (minimum 3.0 overall GPA)
  • Report their internship or experiential learning opportunity in BizLink prior to the start (we do not grant retroactive credit)
  • Not exceed 15 credit hours in a given semester to participate in a credit-bearing internship

*MBA students may be waived from this requirement if they can demonstrate at least one year of full-time employment (post-bachelor) at the managerial level.  Students must upload a detailed resume to BizLink for review by committee within the first month of the MBA program. Decisions are communicated by email prior to winter session.

MS Students

Eligibility for internship participation is based on program design, expectations, and start date.  Ask your academic advisor for assistance.

  • MS Management Information Systems students must communicate their intentions for internship participation to their academic advisor prior to working with our team.
  • MS Accounting students performing at a GPA of 3.0 or higher are eligible for internships.
  • MS Finance students performing at a GPA of 3.0 or higher are eligible for internship participation in appropriate finance-related internship experiences.
